What’s a better gift than some delicious home cooked food for Valentines’ Day? They say the way to someone’s heart is from their stomach! Preparing a hearty and delicious meal may be the perfect way to show your love to them. 
 

Here are some simple, yet unique dishes you can prepare at home to surprise your loved ones! 
 

Jam tarts

Valentines’ Day is all about the sweetness and happiness that you’ll be giving your loved ones. These jam tarts are not only quick and easy to make, they will make your loved ones feel happy too. 
 

Ingredients
 

1. 250g plain flour
2. 125g butter
3. 1 medium egg
4. 1 vanilla pod
5. 100g jam

 

Preparation steps

1. Dice the butter 
2. Scrape the seeds of the vanilla pod

 

Instructions 
 

1. Put the flour, butter and a pinch of salt in a bowl and mix them together.
2. Then, stir in the egg and vanilla seeds.
3. Add 1 tbsp of cold water, then knead the dough.
4. Add 1 more tbsp of water to make the mixture smoother. Then, wrap it in cling wrap and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.
5. Preheat the oven to 200°c.
6. Add butter to your tart tin and sprinkle some flour over.
7. Unwrap and roll out the chilled pastry, then use a straight or fluted round cutter to cut out 12 circles, big enough to line the holes in the tin.
8. Add in about 1-2 tsp of your chosen filling into each one and, if you like, cut out little pastry hearts (perfect for Valentine's Day) and pop them on top.
9. Bake until the pastry turns golden brown.
Leave to cool in the tin for a few mins then carefully transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Lamb Chops With Roasted Potatoes and Radishes 
 


 

Such a fanciful and romantic looking dish should not be missed out on during Valentines’ Day! Feel free to use other meat options like pork or chicken chop if you are not a big fan of lamb!
 


Ingredients 

1. ¼ cup of finely chopped red onion
2. 2 tbsp of white wine vinegar
3. Salt and pepper
4. 5 tbsp of olive oil
5. 450g of baby potatoes
6. 450g of small radishes
7. 900g of bone-in-lamb loin chops
8. 1/4 cup fresh mint
9. 60g of feta cheese


Preparation steps

1. Finely chop the red onions
2. Cut the baby potatoes into half 
3. Cut the small radish into a quarter 
4. Chop the mint 
5. Crumble the feta cheese

 

Instructions 
 

1. Preheat the oven to 200°c.
2. Add the onions and vinegars into a bowl and season them with salt and pepper. Let it sit for 20 minutes. 
3. Coat a rimmed baking sheet with 2 tablespoons of oil. 
4. Add potatoes and season with salt and pepper; arrange cut sides down. Roast the potatoes for 10 minutes. 
5. Then, add radishes to the pan and roast until potatoes are golden brown and radishes are tender, for about 14 to 16 minutes.
6. Next, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season lamb with salt and pepper. Then, cook it to your desired preference. 
7. Lastly, for seasoning and garnishment, add mint, cheese, and remaining 2 tablespoons of oil to the onion mixture. Serve lamb topped with relish and vegetables alongside.

Strawberry Ricotta Bruschetta
 


 

These delicious mini strawberry sandwiches look like a sophisticated pastry to prepare, but can actually be done in a few steps! 
 

Ingredients
 

1. 12 slices French bread baguette (1/2 inch thick)
2. 1.5 tablespoons butter, melted
3. 1.5 cups fresh strawberries, chopped
4. 1.5 tablespoons minced fresh mint
5. 1.5 tablespoons honey
6. 0.5 cup ricotta cheese
7. 1 tablespoon of seedless strawberry jam
8. 1 teaspoons grated lemon zest

 


Directions

1. Brush bread slices with butter; place on an ungreased baking sheet
2. Bake at 375°c for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
3. Add the strawberries, mint and honey into a bowl
4. Add the ricotta, jam and lemon zest into another bowl
5. Spread ricotta mixture over toast; top with strawberry mixture.
